InspireD, the future of smart card !
InspireD is a European initiative including 16 leading European industrial and academic stakeholders. It is dedicated to the future of the secure device industry. The inception of InspireD, an acronym for INtegrated Secure Platform for Interactive tRusted pErsonal Devices, was in early 2004, and the project has just entered in the final phase. The vision of Inspired is to base next-generation secure devices on a new common platform approach for Trusted Personal Devices (TPDs).
The most basic requirements of a TPD are privacy, trust, and security of consumer digital identities in mobile devices and networks. TPD security relies on cryptography technology and dedicated hardware. A TPD is designed to be a personal device to be employed in an information technology infrastructure.
TPDs fall into the following geometric form factors: SIM cards, mass storage cards, USB tokens, and smart cards. TPD areas of application include mobile telecommunication, online services, Digital Rights Management, and Digital ID Management.
InspireD members convened repeatedly over the three-year project duration. The initial set of suggested use cases has been refined to a final set of Application Oriented Proof of Concepts.
